We Are One-Eighth of the Way Through Trump’s Second Term. Americans Aren’t Happy.

This week marks six months since Donald Trump took his oath of office for the presidency a second time — an oath he has failed to uphold on countless occasions — and a bevy of polls show that Americans are not happy with the results.

After allowing billionaire Elon Musk to create DOGE and make tremendous cuts/firings at several government agencies on a whim (often with disastrous consequences); after issuing frivolous “emergency declarations” to justify his numerous executive orders; after attempting to rewrite the U.S. Constitution unilaterally in order to redefine who in this country is a citizen or not; after denying dozens/hundreds/thousands? of people their due process rights; after going back and forth and back and forth and back again, multiple times, on tariff threats to foreign countries, disrupting the markets and making the dollar weaker as a result; and after passing his signature legislative package, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which includes hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid and food assistance — who can blame American voters for having sour feelings on this president?

That’s just the list I had the patience to type out. On a myriad of issues, Trump has lost the confidence of voters, failing to uphold his campaign promises of addressing inflation and lowering costs for consumers and instead focusing on an agenda riddled with hatred, retribution, and personal gain.

Just how badly is Trump doing, according to the American voter? An aggregate of polling data compiled by RealClearPolling.com shows that, as of Monday afternoon, Trump is averaging around a -7 point approval rating.

That number is somewhat optimistic, too, as it is buoyed by two polls — Rasmussen and RMG Research — that typically give him more positive numbers than is realistic. Indeed, those two polls were the only ones out of the 12 included in the RealClearPolling aggregate to give him positive marks. Take those away, and Trump’s net approval rating is closer to -9 points, on average

Multiple polls, too, give Trump negative marks in the double-digits range, with CBS News giving him a net -16 point approval rating, Reuters/Ipsos a -13 point rating, Economist/YouGov a -11 rating, and Quinnipiac University giving him a -14 point rating.

Looking at that last poll specifically, and it’s clear that Americans are REALLY pissed, because Trump polls negatively on nearly every single issue, including ones he generally polls WELL on.

Trump gets -15 points on immigration in that poll, and a whopping -21 points on how Americans feel about his mass deportation policies. On economy, he gets -13 points, and on trade, he nets -16 points in approval.

And oh, let’s not forget: his administration overall nets a -46 approval rating when it comes to their handling of the Epstein files.

Trump is a failure as a president, and it’s only six months in. What will the remaining 42 months look like? I’m not too optimistic, but I’m guess he’s aiming to do more damage to our democracy and our society, in general. The question is: who will stand up to stop him?
